Research Into Target Audience

Polydor Records

Today on the lesson we have two special guests - Helen and Emily who are video commissioners. They work for Polydor Records which is a British record label that operates as a part of Universal Music Group.

  • The Process of Creation Music Video:

I was very useful that Emily and Helen told us about the process of creation music video as we know know secrets of this part of music industry. First of all, the whole process, which start with getting the track and ends with the delivery day, takes on average 6-7 weeks. The first thing that happens during the process is the discussion with an artist or a band. During the discussion the artist or the band as well as directs and video commissioners decide about an idea, location/studio. Sometimes the artist know exactly what they want. However, occasionally the production company create the whole idea by suggesting few ideas to the artist.  It was also interesting to know that the editing process takes on average a week, if there is no difficult animation or graphic design.

  • The Job of Video Commissioners:

During the talk Helen and Emily told us about their job responsibilities. They said that once the production team and the artist decided about the idea, the job of video commissioners is to make sure the everyone know exactly what they are doing. They suggested that the shooting day should be a fun day and in order to create fun environment everything should be prepared for such an essential day. Thus the job of video commissioners is to annoy people with notifications about the deadlines of storyboard and timeline, for example. It is very important that any issue should be resolved before the shooting day, otherwise the artist may not be satisfies with the final result.

  • The Commercial Side of the Process:
Helen and Emily argue that for commercial artists veto is the best way to promote their music video. However, they said that Vevo dictates their own rules which each artist should follow, this making it quite complicated to work with the. Nevertheless, the amount of views on Vevo and Youtube is very important for the success of the artists. It is also very important to consider Tv adverbs during the shooting process. Helen and Emily argue that if the music video should be released very urgently, the artist should send the production company the demo version of the song, which then should be resend to the director. Nevertheless, they suggested that the job of video commissioners is to organize the process of the music video in such a way that there should be no reason to rush with creativity.

  • Real Example

Interesting facts about this music video:
  • The artist spend approximately 30.000 pounds on this particular music videos.
  • A lot of rehearsal with dancer have been done.
  • Ollie (the singer) is an actors. So this fact allowed the production company to create such an interesting plot for this particular music video.
  • We can describe the music video as 'simple idea, lots of details'.
  • 'Years and Years' is not supposed to be a comedy and it is also not supposed to be serious drama.

  • Treatments:
During the talk Emily and Helen showed us a treatment for 'Years andYears' music video. I really like it because it consists of lots of images  and then a lot of decryption. I thing that's a really clever idea as it allows to understand better the whole process of creation music video.

  • Some More Real Examples:
I have decided to include the video by Lana Del Ray cooled "Born to Die" as Helen said it is her favorite music video. Interestingly, the music video is extremely beautiful as it was shot in famous palace in France.

'The Monster' is extremely popular music video which has more than 332.000.000.

In conclusion, I want to argue that the talk was extremely interesting and useful as it allows us to find out a lot of essential information about the process of creation music videos.

Anymatic Storyboard

We have decided to develop our storyboard and do not leave it just as simple power point presentation. So, we completed the edit of our anymatic with our song.

Feedback:
Our teacher said that our anymatic storyboard is very beautiful and clear. However, we need to make some essential alterations in order to make it better. First of all, our teacher recommended us to write a name of the shot above (e.g. wide shot, middle shot, etc). Secondly, we need to write a description of the shot. Thirdly, each shot should be numbered.

Overall, our anymatic storyboard requires some alterations in terms of organization. Furthermore, we need to make it more clear for the audience. This means that we need to write some description above all the shots, as well as number them properly. This will make our anymatic storyboard more clear and readable for our potential audience.
